What was/is the Soviet equivalent of McCarthyism? Was it very radical as well?

In the late 1940s and early 1950s there were a large number of show trials in the soviet Union and eastern Bloc. Google slansky, and doctor's plot. There are signs that Stalin was planning another huge purge but died too soon. McCarthyism was a tea party in comparison.
